Description

Your first stop is the temple of Horus at Edfu on the west bank of the Nile.  Completed in 57 BC under Ptolemy XII and often called the crowning jewel of the Nile temples, it is one of the most-preserved and complete temples in Egypt. On it is etched the stories of the gods and past kings, including the falcon-headed Horus, the symbol of Kingship.

As you step into the long halls bearing carvings and painted hieroglyphs, the precision is a treat in any ancient site. They tell you the divine story of Horas and Set, elaborating the myth of war and victory, which was central to Egypt's spirituality. The whole ambience just helps you imagine the ceremonial rites, festivals, and people leaving offerings.

It's a site you don't want to miss if you appreciate spiritual history. Your amazing guide will be glad to tell you the stories that make up these temples.

From Edfu, head over to Kom Ombo Temple, standing at the bed of the Nile. Also built during the Ptolemaic dynasty, it is dedicated to two of Egypt's gods, Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus the Elder. They are the symbol of fertility and strength, sky and protection.

The most captivating thing about the Kom Ombo is probably the dual designs. There are mirrored entrances, hypostyle halls, and courts, one for Sobek and one for Horus. They say it is an architectural expression of balance and duality where life and death, strength and protection, chaos and order can coexist.

As you walk through Kom Ombo, you'll see reliefs showing their religious rituals and the symbolic representation of the Nile’s creatures.

Just beside the temple, there's the intriguing Crocodile Museum where you'll see mummified crocodiles recovered around there. They are a reminder of how these great reptiles are important and woven into the local spiritual life.

As you finish exploring Southern Egypt's ancient temples, your private tour takes you back to Luxor along the Nile. You get to enjoy the view of nature once again after a day of exploring the grand architecture and storytelling art.

Itinerary

Explore the sacred temples of Edfu and Kom Ombo with your professional TRAVIAZ Egyptologist guide on a private journey from Luxor. This immersive experience takes you more than two millennia into Egypt's Ptolemaic era--an age believed to be when gods ruled the land and temples were built to last forever.

Temple of Horus at Edfu

Your first stop will be at the Temple of Horus. The temple is located on the west bank of the Nile, and was completed in 57 BC during the reign of Ptolemy XII. The magnificent structure has been generally considered to be the best-preserved temple in Egypt.

The temple is densely carved with hieroglyphs and reliefs of the gods, rituals and royal ceremonies, which are dedicated to Horus, the falcon-headed god of kingship and divine

As you pass through the temple's hall and courtyard, your professional Egyptologist guide will bring the legendary conflict between Horus and Set to life--a powerful myth symbolizing the eternal battle between chaos and order.

Kom Ombo Temple

The tour then continues towards the South to the remarkable Temple of Kom Ombo, which is uniquely positioned on a bend of the Nile. The temple was built during the Ptolemaic dynasty and was dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god of fertility and strength and Horus, god of the sky and divine protection

What makes Kom Ombo truly fascinating is its perfectly symmetrical design. The temple has dual entrances, mirrored halls, and twin sanctuaries that are dedicated to each god.

This architectural balance represents the ancient Egyptian ideology of duality, such as life and death, chaos and order, power and protection in their harmony.

As you explore further, you'll see detailed reliefs illustrating religious rituals and symbolic Nile creatures.

Next to the temple is the Crocodile Museum, where there are mummified crocodiles found in the region--powerful reminders of Sobek's importance in local spiritual life.

At the end of the tour, Traviaz will take you back to your hotel and leave you with the unforgettable memories of the ancient wonders of Egypt.
