We start the day off at the Giza Plateau, right next to that ancient giant, the Great Pyramid of Khufu, which, incidentally, was built way back around 2560 BC. It’s the one remaining wonder from the Ancient World's Seven Wonders that still hasn’t been knocked down
Just a stone's throw away are the Pyramid of Khafre, which still has some of its original limestone casing intact, and the smaller Pyramid of Menkaure. Take a step back, and you're rewarded with a panoramic view of all three pyramids gazing out at you.
Next up, a short drive gets us to the Great Sphinx, a monumental sight carved directly out of solid limestone. Its lion's body and face, usually linked to Pharaoh Khafre, spell out royal authority and protection. You can have a perfect view of it from the Valley Temple, an ancient site where rituals for mummification were once carried out.
After that, we head for Cairo to check out either the Grand Egyptian Museum or the historic Egyptian Museum, depending on what's available. Inside the pyramid, we get a closer look at the impressive bits, like giant statues, royal sarcophagi, perfectly preserved mummies, and the dazzling treasures of Tutankhamun. Your guide ties all these artifacts right in with the pyramids you saw earlier, giving you a complete picture of what life was like back in the day for ancient Egyptians.
By lunchtime, we head to a local eatery to grab a bite. Then it's on to Old Cairo for the next part of the tour.
We visit the Hanging Church, which, incredibly, was built on top of a Roman fortress gate. Then to the Church of Saint Sergius and Bacchus, which has a long-held connection to the Holy Family's time in Egypt. What you’ll see here is a whole different side of Cairo, far removed from the desert.
If we have time, we'll pop by Khan El Khalili, a historic bazaar that's been around since the 14th century.
By the end of the day, you'll have seen it all. The pyramids, the Sphinx, world-class artifacts, and historic neighborhoods, all in a single afternoon spent with TRAVAIZ.
Your day begins when the Traviaz team pick you up from your hotel to explore Cairo’s most iconic landmarks.
Pyramids of Giza
Your tour starts at the Giza Pyramids Complex, home to the world-famous pyramids built during Egypt's Fourth Dynasty. Explore the biggest and oldest of the three pyramids, the Great Pyramid of Khufu constructed between 2580- 2560 BC. Once risen to a height of approximately 146 meters, this remarkable monument embodies the genius of engineering and architectural accuracy with which ancient Egypt was built
The Great Sphinx
The Great Sphinx of Giza is a magnificent structure constructed out of limestone that has the body of a lion and also the face that is believed to represent Pharaoh Khafre. Our guide will explain its symbolism, mysteries, and the famous Dream Stele of Thutmose IV, which narrates a legend of the young prince and the dead Sphinx.
The Egyptian Museum
Next, visit the historic Egyptian Museum in downtown Cairo. The Egyptian Museum houses a brilliant collection of artifacts that spans over 5000 years of Egyptian history. Among its priceless treasures are artifacts that had remained undiscovered for over 3,500 years, until the 20th century, when most of them were discovered. The biggest and most valuable collection of ancient Egyptian art can be found in this museum, and it offers a unique and personal glimpse into the life, beliefs, and accomplishments of this great civilization. With your expert guide by your side, the stories behind these masterpieces will vividly come to life.
Khan El Khalili Bazaar
The next stop will be to the famous Khan El Khalili Bazaar, one of Cairo’s oldest and most vibrant markets. The narrow alleys are filled with shops selling jewelry, spices, textiles, handicrafts, and traditional souvenirs. You’ll also have time to relax at a local café and enjoy authentic Egyptian tea or coffee while absorbing the lively atmosphere of the bazaar
Citadel of Salah El Din
Explore the Citadel of Salah El Din, a medieval fortress that once served as the seat of Egypt’s rulers. Inside the citadel, you will visit the iconic Mosque of Muhammad Ali. The mosque is renowned due to its large Ottoman style and alabaster interior. The massive fortress was built in the late 12th century by Sultan Salah El Din Al-Ayyubi to protect Cairo from Crusader attacks. Because of the strategic location, the citadel served as Egypt’s seat of government for many centuries. During your visit, you will learn about its defensive architecture and the famous Yusuf Well that supplied water to the fortress.
Islamic Cairo
Islamic Cairo is the historical core of the city and boasts of the most important and well-preserved Islamic monuments in the world. You will visit the Al-Azhar Mosque. This mosque is one of the oldest and most influential centers of Islamic learning in the world. The mosque, established more than a thousand years ago, is famous for its beautiful court, ancient prayer halls and sophisticated architecture. Your guide will explain its religious importance, architectural evolution, and lasting role in Islamic scholarship.
