This wonderful trip introduces you to Egypt's Mediterranean capital and a lot of cultural discovery.
Our team from Traviaz will meet you at the Hotel in Cairo or Giza, and bring you to Alexandria in a comfortable car. The trip lasts approximately 2 and 1/2 -3 hours. You will cross villages and farmlands in the Nile Delta. The Catacombs of Kom‛El Klef, an underground cemetery of the Roman era that combines the cultures of Egypt, Greece, and Rome, is the first important attraction.
Then you will go to the Pillar of Pompey, a 25-meter column of granite, which provides us with the idea of what Alexandria was like in the Roman Empire and shares the details of the Serapeum temple complex. There is also a building that is in the memory of the ancient library of Alexandria, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, which represents knowledge, learning, and world culture. Lastly, there is the Qaitbay Citadel, which is a complex constructed in the 15th century on the location of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, a blend of both history and breathtaking coastal scenes.
The tour will be followed by a lunch break, which will usually involve fresh seafood, rice, salads, and the Egyptian traditional side dishes. As you are experiencing the life of the city of Alexandria, you can view the sea and see the fishing boats.
In short, having spent a peaceful day in Alexandria, you will have a short opportunity to see the Corniche and the Stanley Bridge and the Montaza Palace gardens before returning to Cairo.
At the Traviaz group, we prioritise your comfort. This trip will begin with us picking you up in our fully air-conditioned vehicle from your hotel in Cairo. Then, as we travel north towards the famed city of Alexandria, you will enjoy a calm drive, do some work on the way, make some calls, or ask questions about whatever suits your fancy.
Your comfort is our priority, so as usual, our Egyptologist will be with you to ask questions, and also listen as the Egyptologist speaks about the city’s origins, how it was founded by Alexander the Great, and how the city was for centuries shaped by Roman, Greek, and Egyptian influences. When you arrive, your tour guide will cover all the most impressive and significant landmarks of the city.
The first place you will visit is the citadel of Qaitbay, which is a solid fortress built on the site of the famed lighthouse of Alexandria. I don’t think we need to inform you just how much of an importance the ancient lighthouse of Alexandria was to the city’s maritime exploits.
When you are done, our next port of call is the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, which is a cultural masterpiece that was also inspired by the educational background of the ancient city. The architecture of the city will also be explained in a way to show its importance to the city as a hub of knowledge.
After this, we take you to visit the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, a place that is known and popular as one of the most impressive sites in the country. The multiculturalism of the country is also noted and will be explained to you on this tour.
The pillar of Pompet is another massive spot that generously stands out above the Serapeum temple, and it is at this point that our tour guide will explain how important this is to the role of Alexandria during the Roman era.
Between your visits, we trust you will also enjoy the drive along the Alexandrian Corniches, where the Mediterranean and coastal vegetation create a relaxing atmosphere that most of our tourists love.
Through this tour, our Egyptologist will take the time to answer all your questions about every site you visit, in such a way that you will be able to connect this history to the present. After all is said and done, you will be driven back to your hotel room, while leaving you pondering on everything you heard on the tour.
In conclusion, this one-day trip as arranged by the Traviaz Group Tours offers each individual a rich mix of luxury, a touch of nature, and cultural discovery in its finest form.
