Description

Your journey starts in Luxor, where there are a lot of attractions, but we will go to the Karnak Temple Complex first. It presents to you a cluster of extraordinary temples, sanctuaries, pylons, and courts over two millennia old.

Karnak itself shows you the religious culture of ancient Egypt. It was dedicated to the gods, Amun, Mut, and Khonsu during the New Kingdom. You will absolutely enjoy sightseeing at the Wadjet Hall, the Great Hypostyle Hall, and the 10 colossal pylons with your family.

Nearby, you can make a stop at the Sacred Lake briefly to experience the calm where priests once offered sacrifices and performed rituals.

From there, we’ll go to the Luxor Temple through the connecting Avenue of Sphinxes. It’s a vast complex, once a major religious centre in Thebes, the capital of ancient Egypt. Through the murals and carvings, you can tell that the site had been a place where many events took place. They say it was the place where Amun was reborn, earning its name, “the place of first occasion.”

When you cross to the West Bank, the Valley of Kings is your first stop. A first look at it makes you think there’s not much to look at, but that is far from the truth. The royal burial sites are sort of hidden because they were carved into the mountain. When you venture inside with your family, you will see colorful wall paintings in the chambers. These murals tell you the stories meant to guide the Pharaohs into the afterlife.

The Temple of Hatshepsut is also close by, so you can go to visit the sacred ground right after. It was built against limestone cliffs at Deir el-Bahri to honor Queen Hatshepsut. The insides show you significant reliefs telling the stories of the queen during her reign.

After Luxor, go south by Nile cruise while relaxing onboard, enjoying meals and watching the small villages passing by.

When you get to Aswan, don’t skip a visit to the dramatic Philae Temple of the goddess Isis. If time allows, join the Philae light and sound show to hear the stories of Osiris and Isis with your family.

The Aswan High Dam is huge, so you will definitely see it at some point while touring Aswan.

In between the trips, ensure to take pictures, eat local delicacies, and get some souvenirs. It’s going to be one of the most memorable journeys your family has ever taken.

Itinerary

On your arrival in Luxor, you will meet a representative from Traviaz, who will assist you as you begin your Family Journey across the Nile for 5 Days in Egypt. After you have settled in, our expert Egyptologist guide will accompany you to explore the highlights of Luxor’s East Bank.

Karnak Temple Complex

You will start your tour at the Karnak Temple Complex. The complex dates back to the year 1971BC and 20BC, the largest religious site ever built. Dedicated to the Theban triad Amun, Mut, and Khonsu, Karnak was built over centuries, and its structure includes towering pylons, on the sacred lakes and the famous Great Hypostyle Hall, with its forest of giant columns.

Sacred Lake

The Sacred Lake is located within the precinct of Karnak Temple Complex. Priests used to purify themselves in the lake prior to conducting religious rituals. This large, man-made reservoir is one of the remarkable examples of ancient Egyptian engineering. The lake was carefully designed to maintain a constant water level throughout the year. According to ancient Egyptian belief, the lake symbolizes the primeval waters of creation, thus holding deep spiritual significance. Today, the lake remains one of the most peaceful areas of Karnak, where visitors can admire the reflections of the giant temple walls against its calm surface.

Evening Visit to Luxor Temple

In the evening, you will then continue your trip to the beautifully preserved Luxor Temple that is gracefully situated in the heart of the city. Unlike other temples, Luxor Temple was dedicated primarily to royal ceremonies rather than worship alone. Its grand colonnades, statues, and reliefs reflect its importance in coronations and religious festivals and beautifully illustrate the architectural brilliance of ancient Egypt.

After you are done with the tours, the team will return you to the Nile cruise where you will have a sumptuous dinner and spend the night onboard, while sailing along the timeless waters of the Nile.

Accommodation: On board the Nile Cruise
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The second day of your memorable family tour will start with a glorious breakfast. After the sumptuous breakfast, the whole family will set out to explore some of the most captivating landmarks in Luxor. Of course, you will be accompanied by our expert Egyptologist guide arranged by Traviaz.

Valley of the Kings

The trip will begin with a visit to the Valley of the Kings, the royal cemetery of the New Kingdom (c. 1550-1070 BC). Here, you will explore a selection of richly decorated underground tombs belonging to powerful pharaohs such as Tutankhamun, Seti I, and Ramses II. Your guide will tell you about the burial practices, the carvings on the walls, and the beliefs regarding the afterlife that defined this great period in the history of ancient Egypt

Temple of Hatshepsut

Next, you will visit the impressive Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari. This stylish terraced temple was constructed in the 15th century BC to honor one of the most successful female rulers of Egypt. The temple itself, as well as its reliefs, were dedicated to the god Amun and were designed not only with the motives of religious worship but also with the heritage of Queen Hatshepsut as a mighty pharaoh.

Colossi of Memnon

After this, you will see the Colossi of Memnon, two massive seated statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III that once guarded the entrance to the Theban necropolis. These iconic monuments have stood on the Theban plain for over three thousand years and remain one of Luxor's most recognizable landmarks.

In the afternoon, the family will return to the Nile cruise ship for lunch and some time to relax together while enjoying views of the Nile.

In the evening, the family will enjoy dinner and spend the night in Luxor as you continue your family journey across the Nile for 5 days in Egypt.

The third day of your memorable family tour will start with a glorious breakfast. After the sumptuous breakfast, the whole family will set out to explore remarkable temples that reflect daily life, religion, and mythology in ancient EgyptOf course, you will be accompanied by our expert Egyptologist guide arranged by Traviaz.

Temple of Edfu

You will start the tour with a trip to the Temple of Edfu, considered to be one of the well-preserved temples in the whole of Egypt. It was devoted to the falcon god Horus, and the reliefs and hieroglyphs are so detailed that they bring to life the ancient Egyptian mythology of the legendary battle between Horus and his uncle Seth.

Kom Ombo Temple

From here, you will visit the Temple of Kom Ombo. This distinctive double temple dates back to the Ptolemaic period and was dedicated to two deities, Sobek, the god of crocodiles, and Horus, the god of the falcon. The reliefs that are preserved in it provide interesting details on ancient Egyptian medicine and rituals. You will also get to admire its impressive carvings and the fascinating on-site Crocodile Museum, which sheds light on the sacred role these animals played in ancient belief systems.

In the afternoon, the family will return to the Nile cruise ship for lunch and some time to relax together while enjoying views of the Nile. In the evening, the family will enjoy dinner and spend the night in Luxor as you continue your family journey across the Nile for 5 days in Egypt.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, the whole family will set out to explore some of Aswan’s most important landmarks with our expert Egyptologist guide from Traviaz.

Aswan High Dam

Your first stop will be the Aswan High Dam. A landmark of modern Egyptian engineering. The dam was completed in the 20th century and is very important for controlling floods along the Nile, generating hydroelectric power, and creating one of the largest artificial lakes in the world, Lake Nasser.

Unfinished Obelisk

Next, you will visit the Unfinished Obelisk, located in the ancient granite quarries of Aswan. This obelisk was commissioned by Queen Hatshepsut and was meant to be the tallest obelisk in the history of its construction. During its carving, cracks were found that led to the abandonment of the project, leaving behind the rare and valuable experience of the ancient Egyptian method of stone-cutting

Philae Temple

Continue your tour to the beautiful Philae Temple, dedicated primarily to the goddess Isis. Dating back to the Greco-Roman period(380-362 BC), this temple is closely associated with the myth of Osiris, his death at the hands of Set, and his resurrection through the devotion of Isis. Philae Temple is, to this day, one of the most ambient and eye-catching places along the Nile.
