Description

We’ll start the visit at one of Cairo’s major tourist sites, the Giza necropolis, right in the middle of busy Cairo. It is a place you’d love if you’re fascinated by the complexities and engineering of pyramids. First of all, the location amazes you. How are such monuments sitting in the middle of the city? It’s really amazing how Egypt has managed to preserve ancient structures while still developing modern infrastructure around them.

In case you don’t already know, Giza is home to the Great Pyramid, the largest pyramid in Egypt, and the tomb of the Pharaoh Khufu. It stands at 138.5 meters, with a base of about 230.3 meters, which is very massive and impressive. If you like, you can take the tour inside to see the intricacies of the 4500-year-old wonder.

At the complex, you’ll also find large pyramids built for Pharaohs Khafre and Menkaure. The pyramid of Khafre looks taller than Khufu’s, but you’ll soon find out it’s only because it was built on higher ground. The pyramid of Menkaure is significantly smaller, but it’s still equally magnificent.

You can’t miss the Great Sphinx of Giza while on site. You must have seen it in ancient Egyptian movies like The Mummy Returns. If you were intrigued seeing it on TV, you’ll be blown away in person. We can’t say which is more fascinating, the human head on the lion’s body or the fact that it was carved out directly out of the bedrock.

Needless to say, you’ll have a great time seeing the Giza Complex in person.

The next thing on your bucket list should be checking out the museums in Cairo. We recommend visiting the Grand Egyptian Museum first, not just because it is close to the Giza pyramids or because it is new. It is the largest archaeological museum in the world, and it houses all of Pharaoh Tutankhamun's treasures. We tell you, all four days aren't enough to appreciate the structure, artifacts, and exhibits here.

You’ll also want to see the Egyptian Museum, the Old National Museum, and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. They are all impressive as well, with the newer museums incorporating modern tech and infrastructure to highlight the depths of history.

You may think you have seen it all in Cairo, but wait till you tour Luxor. It is simply mind-blowing. Is it the Valley of Kings? The Karnak Temples? The Colossi of Memnon? The Luxor Temple? Or the nearby Temple of Hatshepsut? There’s so much to see in such a little time that you’ll wish the trip were longer.

But don’t worry, all through the tour, your TRAVIAZ guide will make sure no minute is wasted. Book your trip now for the most amazing time exploring Cairo and Luxor.

Pyramids of Giza

The Golden Pyramid Complex of Giza is one of the most significant marvels of the ancient world, soaring out of the sands of the desert. Constructed around 2600 BC, these monumental pyramids were the eternal graves of pharaohs of the Fourth Dynasty of Egypt and are still a strong reminder of the ancient aspiration and brilliance.

Great Sphinx

The Great Sphinx of Giza is a magnificent structure constructed out of limestone that has the body of a lion and also the face that is believed to represent Pharaoh Khafre. Our guide will explain its symbolism, mysteries, and the famous Dream Stele of Thutmose IV, which narrates a legend of the young prince and the dead Sphinx.

Memphis

Memphis was once the capital of ancient Egypt and was founded around 3100 BCE by the legendary king Menes. The city used to be a center of power, religion, and culture, which is why it is also home to magnificent structures like the Great Temple of Ptah and the Temple of Apis. You will also see the amazing statue of Ramses II as you explore the open-air museum- a reminder of how great the city used to be.

Saqqara

You will also visit the Saqqara, the ancient necropolis of Egypt. Here stands the legendary Step Pyramid of Djoser that was constructed around 2600 BCE and is commonly referred to as the first pyramid in the world. The revolutionary building, designed by the great architect Imhotep, was a breakthrough in the history of architecture and the basis of all the pyramids that followed.
