You guessed it, we will be starting from the Giza Complex. It is right there in the middle of the city, yet every bit of history sits untouched. You’ll see the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the smaller Pyramid of Menkaure. They are all so masterfully crafted and humongous that you’ll find yourself staring in awe much longer than planned.
Just within the vicinity, there’s the mysterious Great Sphinx, carved with a human head sitting on a lion’s body. Some say the face is Khafre’s, and others argue it is his father’s, Khufu. Either way, the withered face on the statue tells you it's been there staring into the Egyptian sun for 4500 years.
From Giza, we will be heading straight into the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum. The rumours you heard are completely true. This place is so massive, modern, and history-rich, spreading over 5,400,00 ft2. You’ll see loads of artifacts from the Predynastic period to Roman Egypt. The highlight for most people is the famous 5398 artifact collection of King Tutankhamun, including his tomb. There are also collections of Queen Hetepheres, King Khufu, Yuya, and Thuya.
You simply can’t miss the huge statue of the legendary Ramesses II in the Grand Hall Atrium as you begin your tour at the museum. The same goes for the Grand Staircase, lined with over 60 artifacts, as it leads to 12 main exhibition halls. From there, prepare to be mesmerized by the 100,000 + artifacts spread across the exhibition halls.
Once you’ve had your fill at the museum (which rarely happens), we will be exploring the streets of Cairo. Starting with Old Cairo, you get to see a cluster of historic and modern sites. Watch out for places like the hanging church, Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, Coptic Museum, Amr ibn al-As Mosque, Monastery of Sint Mercurius, Synagogue, Roda Island, and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
Of course, at some point, there’ll be calm felucca rides to help you relax while enjoying the views of Cairo under the sunset.
Three nights packed with so many memories to mark your mind for a long time. By the end of the third night, you will be nothing short of satisfied.
