Coptic Cairo is among the oldest Christian communities in the world and an outstanding aspect of the Egyptian spiritual and cultural heritage. Egypt has a great history of Christianity, and this historic area is home to some of the oldest churches and religious sites in the country. One of its attractions is the popular Hanging Church that stands over the remains of a Roman fortress and is characterized by the gorgeous wooden ceiling and the elaborate icons. You may also visit the Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, traditionally believed to have sheltered the Holy Family during their flight into Egypt. The tour to Coptic Cairo provides a glimpse into the history and culture of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria that traces its roots to the early years of the Christian religion and remains one of the key aspects of Egyptian religious identity. A walk in this area reveals a serene environment full of history, religion, and architecture.
Your tour also includes a visit to the Citadel of Saladin, a medieval fortress that once served as the seat of Egypt’s rulers. Inside the citadel, you will visit the iconic Mosque of Muhammad Ali. The mosque is renowned due to its large Ottoman-style and alabaster interior. The massive fortress was built in the late 12th century by Sultan Salah El Din Al-Ayyubi to protect Cairo from Crusader attacks. Because of the strategic location, the citadel served as Egypt’s seat of government for many centuries. During your visit, you will learn about its defensive architecture and the famous Yusuf Well that supplied water to the fortress.
The next stop will be to the famous Khan El Khalili Bazaar, one of Cairo’s oldest and most vibrant markets. You’ll also have time to relax at a local café and enjoy authentic Egyptian tea or coffee while absorbing the lively atmosphere of the bazaar.

Start your visit with the Colossi of Memnon, two massive seated statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III that once guarded the entrance to the Theban necropolis. The monuments are iconic and have been in existence on the plain of Thebes for more than three thousand years, and they are still one of the most prominent sights in Luxor.
Continue to the Valley of the Kings, the royal cemetery of the New Kingdom (c. 1550-1070 BC). Here, you will explore a selection of richly decorated underground tombs belonging to powerful pharaohs such as Tutankhamun, Seti I, and Ramses II. Your guide will tell you about the burial practices, the carvings on the walls, and the beliefs regarding the afterlife that defined this great period in the history of ancient Egypt.
Next, you will visit the impressive Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari. Devoted to the Theban Triad Amun, Mut, and Khonsu, Karnak was built over centuries, and its structure consists of towering pylons, sacred lakes, and the well-known Great Hypostyle Hall, with its forest of colossal columns.
