We’ll take you straight out of Cairo, 370 km away, into the Bahariya Oasis.
Prepare to be wide-eyed when you see this whole new world of lush palm trees, natural springs, and desert villages welcoming you.
You’ll find Bahariya fascinating because life still thrives there despite being surrounded by sandy plains. The first notable thing you’ll probably see is the Black Desert. It’s easy to see how it got its name with black volcanic rocks spread across the area. Next, you’ll see the Crystal Mountain with its shiny quartz crystals and the Valley of Agabat spreading as far as your eyes can see.
Surprisingly, Bahariya is not so deserted because over 30,000 people live there. There are actual towns where you can meet the locals, including Bawiti, Al Qaser, el-Hara, al-Haiz, Agouz, Mandisha, Managim, and Zabw.
In Bahariya, you can enjoy solitude at one of the natural hot springs scattered around the towns before setting out to see the White Desert.
One of the attractions you don’t want to miss is the Golden Mummies Museum. It houses 10 of the over 10,000 mummies alongside artifacts found in the Valley of Golden Mummies. Nearby, you’ll find the Temple of Alexander the Great, the only known temple in Egypt for a Macedonian ruler.
You’d also want to see the Tomb of Bannentiu and the Tomb of Zed-Amun-ef-ankh to see more of the old Egypt belief of the afterlife beyond the famous sites.
From there, the adventure to the White Desert (Sahara el Beyda) begins. It’s all surreal with huge chalky white formations rising from the sands. Your respect for nature naturally increases when you see the uniqueness of the shapes.
You’d love a camping experience here because the night skies are simply extraordinary. Of course, you want to enjoy some stargazing and midnight tales under the bright moonlight.
Bahariya Oasis is filled with a lot of Egyptian wonders if only you know where to look. Come on this luxury 3-day trip with TRAVIAZ for an adventurous time at Bahariya Oasis.
Your Cairo to White Desert & Bahariya 3-Day Deluxe Journey begins with an early departure from Cairo to Bahariya Oasis. This trip takes approximately four hours, covering around 365 kilometres through the Western Desert.
Upon arrival, enjoy a healthy breakfast in one of the restaurants located in the oasis and begin a sightseeing trip around it and its diverse archaeological and natural attractions.
Bahariya Oasis
The Bahariya Oasis, which was occupied since the Pharaonic era, was formerly a great agricultural centre. It held great importance in the prehistoric caravan routes of Libya/Nile Valley. It is a place of great strategic position that led to centuries of prosperity and left a rich history. Nowadays, Bahariya has been hailed as a great archaeological site.
It gives the visitors an exclusive combination of history and culture.
Tomb of Bannantiu
Your next visit will be to the Tomb of Bannantiu. The tomb is located on the eastern ridge of El Bawiti village. This well-preserved tomb belonged to a high-ranking official called Bannantiu. The tomb is located near the burial site of his father. Its colorful wall paintings and elaborate inscriptions give it an interesting preview of what life was like and what was practiced during the Late Period in Egypt.
Golden Mummies Museum
Next, you will visit the Golden Mummies Museum. The museum hosts mummies that were found in one of the largest burial sites in the Western Desert. The museum offers a fantastic insight into the burial customs and the grandeur of the archaeological discoveries of the Bahariya region.
Bahariya Salt Lake
You will also make a stop at the serene Bahariya Salt Lake. The lake is renowned for its salinity and scenic natural landscapes. Similar to the Dead Sea, it is easy to float in its highly salty waters.
English House
Your last stop will be the English House, which is an old military lookout of World War II, built on a hill. The ruins have panoramic views of the oasis and became internationally known after being featured in the novel and film The English Patient.
Before going back to your desert camp in Bahariya Oasis, you can take some time to explore the sand dunes around and the desert terrain.

After your sumptuous breakfast, you will set out on a memorable desert adventure that is arranged by Traviaz. On this adventure, you will explore the dramatic landscapes of the Black and White Deserts, with a refreshing stop at the natural hot springs of El Haize.
Crystal Mountain
Your first stop will be at Crystal Mountain. This is a remarkable geological formation scattered with shimmering quartz and calcite crystals. Although embedded crystals are protectedbut it is possible to find the loose crystals on the floor. One of the major highlights of this site is the naturally formed calcite crystal arch. Geologists believe this striking structure was once part of an ancient cave system filled with stalactites and stalagmites, before they were gradually exposed by erosion
Valley of Agabat
Next, you will visit the breathtaking Valley of Agabat. The valley is often called the "Beautiful Valley." The valley is known for its dramatic granite formations and vast open desert scenery. It links the Bahariya Oasis and the White and Black Deserts.
White Desert National Park
The park is famous for its surreal, wind-cut limestone formations in the shapes of mushrooms, towers, and abstract sculptures. You will also see the desert change into a canvas of warm colors of gold and pink as the evening approaches, and this will be a really magical moment.
